You shall
make an altar to burn incense on; you shall make it of acacia wood. 2 A
cubit shall be its
length and a cubit its width—it shall be square—and two cubits shall be its height. Its
horns shall be of one
piece with it.
(Exodus 30 vs 1-2)
I’ve been reading the book of
Exodus as part of my daily devotion, and it’s amazing how precise God was in
his instructions to Moses about the layout of the temple. It made me think
about my own life: God has designed an intricate and beautiful blueprint for
me; I just can’t see it. I struggle to keep trusting God when things are not
coming together, when nothing makes sense.
In Exodus God reminds us that he
doesn’t need our help. God gave Moses instructions – Moses had no say in the
design, because it was already perfect; God didn’t need his input. Moses just
needed to trust and obey.
In the same way, God already has the plan for our
lives: socially, maritally, careerwise; he has every aspect covered. We simply need to trust Him, place our hands
in His, and let Him lead the way. It might not be easy. It might not make
sense. But we just need to stretch ourselves a little more each day, and trust
Him yet again.
